Granted this is not a question directly related to programming but when I take a break I quite like to read web comics. What webcomics aside from XKCD can people recommend?

Garfield Minus Garfield. It's depressingly hilarious!

These are my favorites (in addition to XKCD):

Abstruse Goose is really good. A couple of the best ones:

There are quite a few I read daily (though nowhere near as many as @Justin Standard), my favorites (that haven't been mentioned yet) are:

I also follow Cyanide & Happiness, but most of the time, it leaves me with a WTF face. :)

Joy of Tech

My two favorites, both of which haven't been mentioned yet:

  • Erfworld - An story-based comic that will mostly appeal to people who play table-top or tactical RPGs.
  • Girl Genius - Takes place in an alternate version of Europe where the world is ruled by mad scientists. A bit slow to get going, but very engaging after a while.

It has a comic portion to it, but either way, most of the content is funny.

A very few are broken - moved and I haven't updated them (and yes, every day I look at the broken page and go, "Hm, I should fix that..." and move on).

But I read all these daily, though I think there are enough 3, 2, and 1 day a weeks ones that I'm probably going to split them off in a new tab.

Firefox "Open all bookmarks in tabs" ftw.

Not programming related, but funny as hell, Star Wars ep1 as a roleplaying campaign:

Penny Arcade is great, although sometimes the jokes are obscure enough that I have to do research. The only problem with Maakies is that it only comes out once a week. I also like Questionable Content, and I really hope The Perry Bible Fellowship comes back.

  • Tech comic with HCI emphasis OK/Cancel
  • A bit girly perhaps, but with nerdy touches Questionable Content
  • If you are into Half-Life, Concerned <--This is a complete series, so no risk of infinite procrastination :P

Penny Arcade, Diesel Sweeties, Perry Bible Fellowship (publishing much less frequently now) (sample) and Married to the Sea (sample)

I personally read Penny Arcade, MegaTokyo, and Three Panel Soul (and xkcd of course!). MegaTokyo moves at a glacial pace, and you may be better off waiting a few (lot?) years and read everything in one go.

All the others I read have already been mentioned.

and

I can't believe that nobody else has listed Irregular Webcomic! yet.

They're not always programming related, but this one, this one and this one are good to start with. There are quite a few different themes, all of which seem to cross over at some point.

PHD Comics is good too.

My 25 Percent is a webcomic for programmers and frustrated office workers. Here's one claiming that software architects are like condoms.

0

ain't really a comic, but fukung.net is a funny way to make a break. the only problem i usually have is not to be too long on the page and get back to work ;o)

regards

I can't believe the best of all webcomics is missing in this list: The Perry Bible Fellowship. Many different styles, but the same artist, dark humor...

Truck Bearing Kibble is similar, but not as good.

I've been enjoying Achewood a bit less recently, but there are almost seven years of archives that are 80% Gold. Achewood is MC Frontalot endorsed.

Anomaly by Kennedy Rose is the only thing that makes me really laugh lately. I also follow Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal and Cyanide & Happiness.
